Rimco is committed to the education of our youth and is working in close collaboration with several vocational schools in Puerto Rico to train students in Diesel and Electrical Technology. In 2003 Rimco and the Department of Education agreed to collaborate in providing training and support for students, including workshops, curriculums and the latest information regarding diesel technology. Our objective is to introduce to students the latest technologies for heavy equipment, machinery and engines and promote relevant Caterpillar programs, thus preparing them for the competitive workforce. We welcome students and professors at our facilities several times during the year at no cost in order to train and help them develop important skills. Upon request, we also visit schools and offer future technicians advice regarding their field of work and the importance of completing their education.
In 2013 Rimco’s donation of two marine engines to Escuela Vocacional Miguel Such marked the beginning of a significant collaboration and in 2014 it became the only vocational school in Puerto Rico to have a marine engine curriculum specifically designed to prepare students in this area. We are committed with the Puerto Rican youth and our goals are to continue supporting vocational schools and assisting them in offering up-to-date curriculums for Diesel Technology and hands on experience.
In addition, for 22 consecutive years, Rimco has sponsored the vocational competitions in Diesel Technology in association with the vocational schools and SkillsUsa. As a sponsor, Rimco hosts the final competition at its facility. In addition, it sponsors prizes to the first three places at the Awards Ceremony. The winner is eligible to participate in state competitions that take place annually in the mainland United States.
